The Toolkit

Queer Safer Spaces: Why & How

This is an action-oriented toolkit for anyone who designs, runs, or hosts spaces and genuinely wants to make them more inclusive for LGBTQIA+ people. You don't need to be an expert in queer theory to get started. What you do need is the willingness to listen and take action.

The toolkit is structured around three questions.

Why are queer safer spaces important?

A historical and personal introduction into what queer spaces are and why they matter. This chapter raises awareness, which forms the foundation for everything that follows.

How do you create queer safer spaces?

This chapter offers practical tools and workshop guides for space holders, designers, and organizers. From inclusive house rules to a queer bystander intervention workshop and more: these are concrete starting points, not checklists.

Who enters a space?

A chapter for everyone in the space, not just those who organize or manage it. By actively involving visitors, this chapter encourages everyone to reflect on how they show up in shared spaces.

The Toolkit

Available in both English and Dutch, the "Queer Safer Spaces. Why & How" toolkit provides practical guidance for space holders to actively engage with queer safety. Interested? Email to purchase the toolkit.
